How it all began
In 2007 our founders, Marc and Scott were interested in purchasing a real estate company. At the time, Marc was also reading a murder mystery involving a villain posing as a wealthy buyer who lures female real estate agents into expensive homes in order to do them harm. This got them to thinking, how can we protect our mostly female agents?
Marc's background in technology allowed them to set up a system for storing photos sent by agents' cell phones and require agents to send a photo anytime they had to be alone with anyone with whom they were not totally comfortable. The primary purpose of taking and sending the picture would be to function as a deterrent. The photo could be of the individual, the individual’s driver's license or even that person’s car and license plate. If asked, an agent could simply say it's corporate policy, it’s for insurance reasons, even commission related. Any reason would be fine as long as the agent then sent the photo to the office. If the person later became threatening, the agent could inform the individual that a photo has already been sent to the office linking the stranger to the agent at a certain time and place. Deleting the photo from the phone or destroying the phone would do no good as the photo has already been secured and cannot be retrieved - even by the agent. The only way for the photo to remain meaningless would be if nothing happens to the agent. In other words, if anything happens to me, you cannot remain anonymous, if nothing happens to me, nothing happens to you!
Eventually Marc and Scott began thinking about how this type of service could act as a deterrent in numerous situations. Speaking with high-level law enforcement and victims’ rights advocates only affirmed this would indeed be a useful tool. From this series of events, Marc and Scott assesmbled the team of professionals who created the service known today as My Mobile Witness.
